A Too Simple Stealth Game
Goal: Make a stealth game with working mechanics and end goal
Approach: I wanted to make a simple tutorial map, as well as give it a zombie apocalypse setting to the game. Basically, you're a survivor trying to get supplies from a building that is locked from the inside (I know there's no door to the building or any supplies inside, just roll with it.). You can't bust the door down since it would make noise, so you look for another way in. That other way in is the hatch on the roof, but there are somehow zombies on top of the roof. Luckily, the vents are there for you to hide behind or use as their obstacles.
Challenge: There were two things that were a real hassle to get working. The first one was the checkpoint. It wasn't working until I realized I was using the old savecheckpoint event. But switching to the new one actually SAVED the checkpoint to the point where no matter where I place my character, he always shows up on the checkpoint. I couldn't find out how to fix it, so I made a temporary workaround instead: Quitting the game deletes the save. The other was the "vents" on the rooftop. I wanted them to make noise if the player ever dared to try and step on them and attract the zombies, but I was running out of time trying to make them, and couldn't figure it out. So, I unfortunately had to come up with another temporary workaround, which was to disable jumping. I do want to go back to those and get them working properly again at some point. Also, this might sound more like an excuse to why there's so little in this project. But, realizing Windows 10 was being discontinued and it being the system running on my computer, I was so worried about my computer being at risk of having issues and not being able to use it anymore, and it got me more focused on keeping it alive.
I'm not too proud of what I got right now, but I guess it's a start. I hope you find some fun in this game.
